It’s February, and romance is in the air. As Valentine’s Day approaches, I know there is a desperate need to show someone you love how much you care. The most typical desserts are chocolate desserts of all varieties, from chocolate chip cookies to truffles and strawberries. But today, we’re skipping the cliches and putting in a little effort and creativity. Showing someone you care is never about the money, so if you can’t afford to buy fancy treats. I will share with you some romance hacks that embody elegance that any rom-com would be proud to feature.

First, I am a hopeless romantic, and in truth, there isn’t a hack to love, but there are things you can set in place to light a spark. Romantic relationships require maintenance, time, and care, but sometimes we can use fresh ideas to inspire sentimental moments. When choosing a pastry or dessert for valentine’s day, make sure it’s thoughtful. It’s meticulous and well-planned. Leave space to express yourself and clear your intentions through details and timing. Know your partner’s love language. If it’s quality time, consider making the dessert together. If it’s touch, try a blind taste test of dessert samples to guess which. You can elevate the dessert experience by aligning with your partner’s wants and needs.

These are some of the most Romantic Valentine’s Day Desserts:

  • Red Velvet: Red Velvet cake is a top-tier dessert on its own. It is often an underrated dessert, but its diversity works wonders. For those who don’t know, it’s like half vanilla and half chocolate cake dyed red. It has a creamy, decadent cream cheese frosting. It melts in your mouth. A warm cake is the best. When I was younger, I would melt my cake in the microwave so the icing would melt and be absorbed by the cake. I recommend that you, though, make a sundae. Carefully take off the icing and melt it down. Get scoops of vanilla, cookies and cream, chocolate, or even coffee ice cream. Warm your cake and make crumbles on top. Add freshly cut strawberries. Drizzle the melted icing on top. Add some chocolate sauce or heart-shaped sprinkles if you’re feeling crafty. And voila, a quality “homemade dessert.”
  • Heart-Shaped Lollipops: These cherry or strawberry candies are incredibly nostalgic because they were often used as candygrams when we were in school. But something thoughtful would be to let your partner know that “imma a sucker for you.” I would attach each lollipop with ribbons that mention your favorite things or the things you love most about them. Attention to detail here is critical. You’re not trying to be overly cheesy here. I would make the quantity of some relationship significant, like how many months or years you’ve been together — the date of your first kiss or something extraordinary to make the most out of the memory. Remember, thoughtfulness is romantic.
  • Baking from Home Dupe: If you can’t bake, use a brownie or cake box, or genuinely want to make something homemade. This tip is for you. People eat with their eyes, and minor tweaks can push your desserts to look professional.
  • If you’re making brownies add pecans or almonds and carefully feather them across the top into a pattern. Take the extra time to ensure they have a neat formation before baking. Also, when you take the brownies out of the oven, let them cool properly. Then, place them in the fridge for an hour to set. Then place your knife in hot water before slicing your brownies; be careful to wipe and dip your knife before each slice. You want to ensure that your effort shines through with neat squares. You’ll boost up your presentation double times over.
  • If you’re making a créme brûlée, mix it up a bit. Know that milk can be easily infused with any flavor. You can use lavender, violet, rose, cardamom, pistachios, ginger, or whatever you want. There is more to life than vanilla. Though, I am a vanilla stan. Switch it up. I recommend using nuts. Toast your favorite nuts at 350, moving them every 15 min until toasty. Heat your milk and cream slowly until warm, before a simmer. Add your toasted nuts and cover. Leave to steep for about an hour. Strain and then run through your usual recipe. But it’ll give your créme brûlée elegance and depth. Also, change up the berries. You can brûlée anything. It’s just caramelized sugar on top of things. Try using grapefruit or pineapple.
  • Suppose you want to make something delightful but straightforward. Buy a frozen pie pastry. Bake it according to the instructions. Select your favorite berry varieties. Add equal parts berries and sugar with a splash of lemon juice. Cook on medium heat until reduced with minimal water. Add your cooled jam to the bottom of the pie crust. Make whipped cream. Any recipe you find online will do. If you’re feeling fancy, you can also use mascarpone. Just taste as you go to ensure it’s the flavor you want. But note you can elevate your cream with high-quality vanilla or spices. Try using an exciting extract. I love almond extract. Use a piping bag with a tip to help with the presentation. You can buy it at any grocery store in the baking aisle. But you can pipe a thick spiral on top of your jam. You can top your pie with fresh raspberries, intentionally setting them uniformly to fill it. Or you can thinly cut strawberries and fan them across the top.

If you plan on buying a dessert: skip the grocery store and go to a patisserie. Look for pastry shops near you. I would pick up a strawberry tart because there’s just a finesse with them. But, choose whichever your partner would love. An essential tip is to take it out of the packaging. Go to target and get a cute cake stand or a beautiful plate to set it on. Presentation is everything. You don’t want it to look like I just picked this up from the store. You want it to look well-presented and ready to enjoy.

These are all the romantic dessert tips that I have for you. If you have any of your own, please feel free to share them with me. I would love to hear your thoughts and what you’re getting your boo for valentine’s day. Stay blessed this romance season.
